about us

We first visited the region in 2012 and fell in love with the area - the Pyrenees, the Med, the wine, the sun, the Catalan flavour... it felt very special and we left thinking that we had to come back one day... so, from there, we started casually looking for a property and it took a few years before the plan took shape.  After 1 year of serious looking, we came across La Manberjealine - empty and sporting a distinctive 1970's look but surrounded by spectacular scenery so, we went for it in 2015.  After a whole year, and with many hours of planning and renovating, La Manberjealine is presenting a 21st century "facelift" in the inside but still in very special surroundings!

For us, this is not a business but very much our home that we offer you and we hope that you'll share our enthusiasm for the region.

This holiday home with large pool offers everything for a relaxing holiday: comfortable furnishings with everything you need, large pool, bicycles, beautiful grounds, very quiet location and much more .... And all this in this great area in the South of France/North of Spain with its many leisure possibilities. In addition, with Roxanne you have a host who is immediately available to help you with any questions you may have. Great. A place to spend a great holiday.

La Manberjealine is a wonderful place and we enjoyed every minute of our two-week stay. The place is very generous in every respect: there are large grounds around the house (and no immediate neighbours), the swimming pool is reasonably sized and the house itself is spacious and extremely well equipped. We have been spending our holidays in the region for a couple of years and just love it. Both sea and mountains are at your doorsteps, so no need to have those perennial family discussions whether to go to the sea or the mountains. Art lovers will also find lots to discover in places nearby (we particularly love the Musee d’Art Moderne in Ceret). We’ll certainly return!

A great property, nicely furnished and appointed - we particularly liked the quiet location, the covered terrace and pool area, secure grounds and walking distance to the village!  We keep on coming back!

October 2019

we spent 2 weeks in June / July in the house and then immediately booked another week in October because we wanted to hike in the mountains. The house is in a top condition, everything is very clean and modern and also the garden is beautiful, with many old olive trees and oleander hedges. In summer we spent hours in and around the pool and went only once to the sea, because it was more pleasant to stay at the house. What was most important for us - the house is absolutely quietly situated - so that one can sleep well and get away from the stress of everyday life. Nevertheless, it is only a short walk to the city centre and to the sea it is only 15 minutes by the car. Actually, we had planned to try out the restaurants in the nearby villages and then cooked most of the time ourselves - the kitchen is very well equipped, you really have everything you need. The Carrefour on the road D50 towards D618 has a has a very good selection of fresh fish and seafood and the bakery "Le Fournil des Alberes Maison Castro", located at the roundabout opposite to the Carrefour, has a large variety of bread and “designer” cakes, that taste as good as they are looking. We bought wine in the nearby Saint-Genis-des-Fontaines at "Les Vignerons des Alberes" and took several cartons back home. The area around Laroque des Alberes has a lot to offer, the landscape is beautiful and the view from the house into the mountains is fantastic. We visited Collioure, Carcasson, Montsegur, Chateau Queribus and the les Orgues des Ille sur Tete and hiked from Lavall to the Tour de la Massane. Many interesting cities in Spain are only an hour's drive away and we have visited Besalu, Cadaques, the excavations of Empuries and nearby San Marti (where you can eat very well). We have already rented some holiday homes during the last years, which were all nice located and well equipped, but "La Manberjealine" was the one we liked best - we will definitely come back.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable time at La Manberjealine and would definitely recommend it for other families. The pool and garden were lovely and it was so secluded and peaceful. The bikes were a great addition and we used them to pop down to the boulangerie for our morning croissants. It really is a great house in a fantastic location.

An amazing week in stunning, peaceful surroundings for my husband and I, two young children and my parents. Beautiful, homely, spotless, well-equipped villa with everything we could need. Roxanne was so helpful with booking, directions and answering any questions we had. Great location to the nearby village and restaurants and then exploring the wider area by car. Plenty of parking space, shade in the garden and room for the children to play outside. We would love to come back again and couldn’t recommend it more!

2 adults and our dog. We had 2 very hot weeks at the Villa and loved it. The villa was spacious and spotless with all modern facilities and equipment . The garage was a great addition so my partner could store his bike and we could keep all the dog food bowls etc in there . The surrounding area was perfect for us what with mountain biking, running and dog walks lots of different places to explore. The walk up the mountain to the restaurant near the top is a must do but be prepared for a hard walk. We took the fire roads as the climbing of the small paths got hard. Every pub/restaurant accommodated our dog which meant he came everywhere with us. The village is so pretty and every restaurant offered good food. We tried everyone. Thank you so much for a brilliant memory making holiday .

July 2018

We had a fantastic week (2 adults, 2 older teenagers). The house met or exceeded all our expectations and is very much as described on the website. It's spacious, clean, comfortable and very well equipped. The air conditioning worked well, which was a relief because we were fortunate to have a hot week. The village is charming and within walking distance (croissants, baguettes and patisseries are a 12-15 minute stroll), and a short drive away there's a large Carrefour supermarket with everything we needed. Charming Collioure is not far away (the park & ride at car park 2 is brilliant, cheap easy parking and free 5 minute minibus ride) and nearby beaches are good too - Le Racou was our favourite. The pool was great, we had a wonderful holiday and we thoroughly recommend La Manberjealine.

We (4 adults from Germany) have just had two wonderful weeks staying at this beautiful villa. The view from the garden to the mountains is great and the pool lovely! The house is comfortable with enough space and the kitchen well stocked with everything you might need. The area is beautiful and we enjoyed making a lot of tours visiting Collioure, Cadaques, Barcelona, Andorra... We really felt at home in La Manberjealine and can highly recommend it. Thanks for providing such a wonderful place.

A fabulous villa, very quiet location but not isolated and within walking distance of a range of shops and restaurants. Gorgeous views, a lovely outdoor area in front of the villa and a super pool - very popular with our children! Air conditioning a real bonus in the August heat. Beautifully decorated and very well equipped throughout, including excellent wifi access. We had a fantastic fortnight, thank you for sharing your lovely, lovely home with us!

Very spacious and well equipped villa in a rural location but within walking distance/ bike ride to a lovely village with bars, restaurants and great bakery. 20 mins drive to great beaches (le Racou). Collioure worth a visit and only a 20 min drive. Would definitely consider returning.
